Free Hi-Res Splatter Photoshop Brushes

This is my second set of brushes, but my first set made in CS3. My first set (Hi-Res Watercolor Brushes) was pretty popular, so I thought I would keep making more. The smallest brush in this set is 2457px. Hope you like them.

  1. Excellent! I’ve been wanting splatter brushes or elements for things I’ve been working on..

I just found your site this past week and I am extremely thankful for it! Keep up the awesome work. As a informally trained user of Illustrator I need sites like this to learn all of the tricks of the trade! Thanks again!

    :D

  2. Lovely work. I just wish you could make vector versions of these. Or at least photos that could be livetraced. Just a suggestion.

  3. Wow! Amazing! Perfect… again!

  4. @Noor

If you download the PNG’s, I’m sure you could put a white background on them and trace them no problem.

  5. Dugg!

  6. Nice!! they always come handy for things like this.

  7. Its usually very difficult to find such quality work for free - you guys do a really great job. Keep it up!

  10. Thanks heaps!

  11. Thanx a lot again! :)

  12. Just discovered your site through google. These brushes are awesome. Thanks. I love your site.

  13. @Mike,

Is there more than one guy doing this website? I had the impression that there was only one crazy designer.

  14. Amazing! Thank you so much!

  15. Thanks again. Did you jump from CS1 to CS2…I say that because that is the brush standards you set up. Of course I know that CS 1 and CS2 correspond well together, but is CS3 that different and could you possibly do a blog of all the cool new stuff CS3 offers in your easy going and easy to read BITTBOX way, for all of us designers out there that will have to wait a while and scrounge our pennies together untill we get ahold of 3?

  16. I was thinking. Because of the fact that there are multiple great designers that view and idolize this site. I would be great if there was a discussion board. Ive noticed over the months that the commenters end up talking and questioning amongst themselves, usually over the selected post but it grows outward from there to randomness. It would be awsome if there was a spot where we could ask questions to you (Bittbox) and also to the other designers/blog viewers on this site. Such as…I was wondering if we could get a tutorial on how to do vector arrows with tracers or if any one out there knows how to do them fast and effectively. My process ends up taking some time and for some reason they just dont look exactly right. That example really doesn’t have anything to do with this post but it would be great for a discussion board. Just a suggestion from a loyal fan………….keeps up the great stuff.

  17. Wow wow wooh wa! Another knockout freebie! I’ve got finals this week and was pretty bummed about that, but now things are starting to look up!

    Keep up the killer work!

  18. Sweet. I notice there’s now a CS3 brush pack…is CS3 a vast improvement over 2? I.e. would it be worth it for me to invest (I’m a college student, so I can get the ’student version’ but it’s still pretty pricey)? Sorry for going off topic a little, but I trust the opinions of this crowd :).

  19. An idea just came to me: Since bittbox is giving us all these free brushes to use, it would be cool to set up a flicker group or someplace where we could upload the things we’re making with them!

or maybe not, you know, its just a thought…

  20. Got it, and love it.

    Thank you!

  21. Super cool. Thank you. LOVE your blog and all your goodies. The Illustrator brushes are an especially wonderful treat.

  22. @DBdesignCo

I have actually found a discussion board plugin for wordpress, and I might just take you up on that idea. No promises yet.

    @Beau

I haven’t seen any improvements as far as brushes go with CS3 (still restricted to 2500px) But CS3 in general, I have found is much more responsive and faster. I wouldn’t splurge on it unless you would really benefit from it. (I.E. CS2 on a PC will do fine, but CS2 on an intel Mac is just a resource hog, plain and simple. since upgrading, I can have PS, Ill, DW, and Flash open all at the same time, with virtually no problems. I’ve been impressed with the interface/workspace improvements as well.

    @BruceBolin

I have been planning on adding a feature like you speak of for some time now. Watch in the next few months for a BittBox redesign, I’ll probably add a User Showcase section when I give the site a facelift.

  27. How do you load brushes into Illustrator? Photoshop is easy beacuse they are .abr files but Illustrator seems like it can only use Illustrator Artwork files.

  28. Andy,

I don’t think you can load them into Illustrator directly as brushes. BittBox offers PNG files that could probably be traced and turned into a brush in Illustrator. I know that could take some work, but it’s the only way I can think of….

  29. @Andy Apple

It’s a little confusing because illustrator brush sets have the same extension as a regular file (.ai) You can install them the same way you do an ABR in Photoshop.

Copy the Brush Library (.ai) to Illustrator/Presets/Brushes

You probably won’t even see anything if actually you try to ‘open’ an Illustrator brush library, with Illustrator itself. After it’s copied to that folder, you can load it, the same way you would in Photoshop. From the Brushes Palette.

  30. Hi Andy,

Will your brushes work in PS 7 ?

Thank you Andy, I am showing them to my site visitors and would like to let them know.

  31. Greg,
The brushes will work in PS7 if it accepts .abr files like Photoshop CS does.

  32. Thank you Andy !

  33. You sir, continue to be in no uncertain terms, THE MAN!! Bitbox adds value to my time as a designer. I agree with above commenter - there are seeds of a good web community here.

    Thanks!

  35. Thank you very much for sharing your learning, thoughts and ideas. You truly are a gifted person, someone who’s intuitive by nature and masterful in interpretation.
For those of us who are not artistic or creative but love the thought, your kindness in sharing is welcomed. Through it I have found the ability to create something I had no idea I could do. After downloading your brushes, both Illustrator and Photoshop, I have spent many hours just exploring the potential. It has motivated me to continue trying to find that illusive creative ability that comes so natural to you. I truly look forward to your insights and sharings.

May all good things come your way.
